Entertainment and food go together like a fine wine and French cheese. So why not combine the two at your next party or special event by selecting a catering theme to match a popular foodie movie? Here are a few of meal ideas inspired by some of our favorite foodie films.

Julie and Julia

The 2009 film, “Julie and Julia” documents the challenges Julie Powell, a blogger, undertakes when she decides to cook all of the recipes in Julia Child’s first book. In the film, Julie describes Cuncombres Au Beurre, or baked cucumbers, as a revelation. So they’re a must. Here are a few other suggestions:

The Big Night

In the 1996 movie, two Italian-immigrant brothers open a restaurant in New Jersey. The brothers pour all of their savings into creating a big night and inviting guests to create a buzz for their restaurant. They prepare exquisite food for the big event, but in the film’s final moments, they brothers prepare and eat an omelet together. So, a “Big Night” themed menu could feature breakfast items or authentic Northern Italian food, including the brothers’ signature dish, timpano.

Like Water for Chocolate

In the 1992 film, “Like Water for Chocolate,” a girl, Tita, learns to express her passion for her true love—who has married her older sister—through traditional Mexican cooking.  Tita’s cooking is seasoned with something that can’t be purchased at the grocery store—her feelings. Her food makes everyone sob at a wedding.
