Plan an Event Menu for Guests with Food Allergies

If you are hosting or planning an event, you likely know that planning the menu is one of the most difficult things you will need to do. The problem isn't related to what type of food you want or how to find a great catering company. Rather, the problems usually arise when you begin considering guests with special dietary needs. So what can you do to make sure all of your guests are happy and satisfied? Here are a few tips.

Special Menu Planning

1. If you are sending invitations to your event (such as a birthday party, wedding, or reunion), you will probably have an RSVP card. Make sure your RSVP card has a section where guests can list any dietary restrictions they might have.

2. If you are hosting an event for work, speak to your HR department about what type of restrictions your coworkers might have.

3. Pick a catering company that can provide gluten free, vegan, soy free, nut free, dairy free, and other special menu options. If you hire a catering company that only makes pizza, it's going to be more difficult finding soy, gluten, and dairy free options.

4. Plan your menu for the general public, but make sure you have a small selection of special items. If your wedding party has 300 guests, you shouldn't expect all 300 individuals to eat a gluten free, soy free, vegan meal. Plan for the majority, prepare for the minority.
