Tips for a Better Business Lunch

Having a business lunch can be more stressful than people realize. There are a few things that happen during a meal that don't always fit into the business setting. If you aren't careful, it's easy to give someone the wrong impression during a business lunch. Thankfully there are a few simple tips that you can follow in order to set yourself up for a better business lunch.

Don't Order Messy Food

If you're trying to make a good impression on a new client, potential business partner, or new employee, the last thing you want to do is spill a warm meatball sub all over your favorite tie. Avoid ordering things that are prone to mess—spaghetti, large sandwiches, greasy pizza. If you want to order to burger, get the sliders instead. Stick to food that is neat and easy to manage.

Don't Drink

It is recommended to never drink at any business function. Business lunches can be a more personal event than a corporate gathering, which is an even larger reason not to drink during them. Drinking can not only affect the way you perceive things, but also the way that you come across to others.

Know Your Crowd

In order to set yourself up for success during a business lunch, get to know your party beforehand. If it's your responsibility to provide the food, figure out what your guests enjoy, and provide that.

Be Prepared

The most important part about having a better business lunch involves being prepared. Plan what you will discuss during the meal, and have all of the tables set and the food ready ahead of time if you plan to cater the lunch.
